A single aluminium identity disc worn by 57189 Private W Giriffin 20th Battalion CEF. These metal discs were issued in Canada and preceded the issue of the Red and Green Fibre discs that were adopted by the CEF. He served overseas from January 1916 . He received an accidental bomb wound to the head in December 1916. Likely during mills bomb practice but this is not specified in his records. 20th Ontario Battalion were part of 2nd Canadian Division seeing action at Vimy Ridge, Hill 70 3rd Ypres and other key engagements.
